Năm 1989, sau một trận mưa băng rơi xuống thị trấn Smallville giết chết rất nhiều người, gia đình ông bà Jonathan và Martha Ken đã tìm thấy một chiếc phi thuyền đâm sầm xuống cánh đồng, bên trong đó có một cậu bé xinh xắn. Họ đem đứa bé về nuôi và đặt tên là Clark Kent.

Mười mấy năm sau, Clark lớn lên và bắt đầu khám phá sức mạnh bí ẩn tiềm tàng trong cơ thể mình. Clark trở thành siêu nhân. Cũng chính trong thời gian này, Clark nhận ra rằng cuộc sống anh bắt đầu gặp rắc rối, đảo lộn. Clark rất thích cô bạn hàng xóm thông minh, xinh xắn Lanna Lang. Thế nhưng có một sự ngăn cách bí ẩn nào đó khiến anh không thể đụng vào Lanna. Còn Lanna, cô gái mồ côi cả cha lẫn mẹ trong trận sao băng năm xưa, cũng bắt đầu quan tâm và đặt nhiều ghi vấn về Clark sau khi anh cứu thoát chết trong cơn lốc xoáy dữ dội.
